Legendary Lanny McDonald is quite simply the most popular and recognizable Calgary Flame in the history of the franchise. The Hall of Famer is the bearer of Canada’s most iconic moustache and is beloved as much for the content of his character as he is for his on-ice heroics.
The dilligent McDonald works on the sales/marketing/PR side with URS Flint, is the radio spokesman for Eastside Dodge, and works with Scotiabank’s Hockey Day in Canada programs. He also humourously refers to himself as “quality control” for his family-owned microbrewery.
On three separate occasions Lanny has flown into Afghanistan to comfort our troops, but he is best known for his tireless work with the Special Olympics and the Alberta Children’s Hospitals.
“I love to help wherever I can but especially with the Special Olympics and the Children's Hospital. The Special Olympics athletes have taught me more than I could've ever taught them… and it's been rewarding, I believe, on both sides.”
Lanny and his wife Ardell have four children: daughters Andra and Leah, and sons Barrett and Graham. He is also a proud and doting grandfather to three grandsons and a granddaughter.
